The past 10 days have been incredibly fun, but also slightly exhausting. Mostly fun. Full of cuddles. Why?
We got a new kitten!
Oh, there is nothing I love more than a baby animal. Any kind of baby animal, I don’t discriminate (although I can’t say I’ve met EVERY kind of baby animal. I’m sure some would frighten me). But tiny, adorable kittens are absolutely precious.
Our new little man is pictured above on the right and his name is Aslan (I’ll wait to see if any of you nerds get that reference). He is such a fierce little lion it totally fits. He has been running around the house like a crazy cat, finding his runways and stalking our precious girl Ganja (pictured left). In fact, for the first few days I wasn’t even sure they would get along, at least not anytime soon. But after weekend one things cooled down. She started getting interested in him. I won’t go as far to say that they’re friends, but she’s definitely tolerating him, which is a lot better than the growls and hisses he was first met with.
Over this past weekend I got my Christmas decorations put up and both cats went crazy over the tree. We didn’t put a tree up last year so Ganja hasn’t seen one in a while. And Aslan has never seen one before at all. And alright, it’s only a 4 foot tree this year, but hey a tree is a tree. It was a bonding moment for them, to both be fully interested in the same item but not really have to interact with each other to use it. Ganja set up camp under the tree and Aslan took to sniffing the branches (and even trying to eat them!). We had to get the spray bottle to curb that. If the tree was like alive I wouldn’t mind them chewing on the branches. But on plastic? Yeah, not so much.
We are such cat lovers here I’m honestly surprised we didn’t get a kitten sooner, however, I’m so glad we waited for this one. He cuddles up right under my chin and falls asleep on my boobs (hey they make a great shelf!). He sleeps on our heads at night. He gives kitty kisses. He’s talkative and purrs nonstop. Sigh. I could go on forever.
I can’t wait to see how he changes as he grows. While I could stand for his energy level to go down just a smidge I hope that his character stays the same even in adulthood. His spirit and playfulness is so contagious and I couldn’t imagine a better animal joining our lovely family here in Florida.
Here’s to all the animal lovers out there. You guys rock!
Happy Writing,
