Why Someone Stalking Your Online Work Might Actually Be A Good Thing!

For anyone that’s had to deal with a stalker, whether in real life or in cyberspace, you know that it can be pretty scary. No one should have to feel threatened or frightened for their life or their family’s well-being.

But sometimes, if someone’s creeping around on your website, portfolio, or other social media pages it’s more likely than not they’re actually a huge fan! Even if they’re constantly leaving rude comments, badgering you with untrue statements, or otherwise can’t express anything other than negativity, it probably means they like your work, and are potentially just jealous of you, your creativity, and your life.

After all, a hater is often described as a super-fan that just doesn’t understand how to show their feelings in a positive way.

Perhaps they haven’t even come to terms with those feelings themselves. Or they hate that they actually admire you and your work so to make themselves feel better they choose to viciously attack you.

Maybe they’re bitter about a relationship gone bad and wish they’d made better choices that wouldn’t have cost them a friendship, partnership, or other relationship with you. Frankly, it’s just sad when people can’t move forward with their own lives and instead continue to attempt engaging with people who have no interest in communicating with them, whether by cyberstalking, nit-picking, or finding some other way to try and harm them and their reputation.

I describe that as being the ultimate super-fan, albeit perhaps a bit of a scary one.

So I’ll close with this:

Don’t be afraid of having haters, and to some extent, cyberstalkers. Unless they’re REALLY threatening you, of course. Not all counts of cyberstalking come from a place of deep seeded love-hate, but rather from real danger and malicious intent. If you feel threatened or scared in any manner you’re probably not dealing with a hater-fan but potentially a psycho and you should seek help immediately!

If you are dealing with a hater, just remember that some people have nothing better to do with their lives then try and illicit a response or hurt others feelings. Those are not people you want to be like or near at all, so continue deleting their comments or emails, continue ignoring, and I promise it will get better.

Be authentic. Keep your head up. And love with everything you’ve got!
